Drum Chipper

Structure: The blade is mounted on a cylindrical drum, and the wood is cut by squeezing the drum with the bottom knife.

Features:

Suitable for handling large diameter logs or hardwoods.

The production capacity is high, but the chip uniformity is slightly inferior to the disk type.

Mostly used in large pulp mills or biomass fuel production

Disc chipper

Structure: The cutter head is disc-shaped, the blade is installed radially on the disk surface, and the wood is cut by high-speed rotation.

Features:

Suitable for processing small diameter wood (such as branches, scraps).

The chip size is uniform and can be controlled by adjusting the blade Angle and screen.

Common in small and medium-sized wood processing plants.

Blade system:

Material: alloy steel (such as Cr12MoV), tungsten carbide coating, need to be regularly sharpened or replaced.

Quantity: Usually 4~12 pieces, affecting cutting efficiency and wood chip quality.

Feed port:

Flat feed: suitable for plate and branch.

Diagonal feed: suitable for logs, anti-rebound design is safer.

Power configuration:

Motor: commonly used power 15~315kW, according to capacity selection.

Diesel engine: suitable for field work (such as 30~400 HP).

Discharge system:

Fan delivery: Wood chips are piped to the collection point.

Screen filtration: to ensure that the size of the wood chip is up to standard (such as 15~30mm for paper making)

Working Principles:

Feed: The wood is fed into the feed port by conveyor belt or manually.

Cutting: A high-speed rotating cutter or drum cuts the wood into slices.

Screening: Wood chips are passed through a screen, and large pieces are cut twice.

Discharge: Qualified wood chips are discharged by fan or gravity and enter the storage bin or transport vehicle

Application:

Paper industry: The wood chips are required to be thin and uniform (thickness ≤5mm).

Wood-based board (MDF/ particleboard) : the length of wood chips is about 20~40mm.

Biomass fuel: the size of the wood chip can be slightly larger (30~50mm), and the moisture content needs to be controlled.

Garden waste disposal: mobile chipper directly crushed branches and leaves

Operation and Maintainence:

Safety specifications:

Do not put metal, stone, prevent blade cracking.

Wear gloves, goggles, and push tools for long wood.

Maintenance points:

Daily: Check the blade tightness and clean up residual wood chips.

Monthly: Lubricate bearings, replace worn blades.

Annual: Repair motor, belt, calibrate cutter balance
