Raw Materials for Making Particle Board

First, wood raw materials (mainstream choice)

 Natural wood:

Fast-growing trees: poplar, pine, eucalyptus, Chinese fir (low cost, easy to process, accounting for more than 80% of the market).

Hardwood leftovers: scraps of oak, birch, beech (to increase density and strength).

 Wood processing waste:

Sawdust, shavings, wood chips (from sawmills, furniture factories, construction sites).

Branches, small trees (forest harvesting residues, need to be chipped).

 Reclaimed wood:

Scrap furniture, pallets, building templates (need to remove metal, paint and other impurities).

Non-woody plant fibers (eco-friendly alternative)

 Agricultural waste

Straw: rice husk, wheat straw, corn stalk, cotton stalk (need to be crushed and wax removal treatment).

Other fibers: bagasse, flax stalk, bamboo (long fiber, can enhance the toughness of the board).

 Regenerated cellulose material

Paper board, newspaper (need to be deinked and decomposed, suitable for low density board).

Key factor in raw material selection

Cost priority

Wood waste (e.g. sawdust) < agricultural straw (to be pre-treated) < pure MDI rubber sheet.

Performance requirement

High strength: Long fiber chips (such as pine for OSB) > short fiber sawdust.

Moisture resistance: phenolic resin + wood fiber > urea-formaldehyde resin + straw
