The Ring Flaker is a precision wood processing equipment used for producing high-quality and uniform wood chips (shavings). Its core working principle is to perform continuous and fine cutting of wood through multiple cutting tools arranged in a ring shape
The ring slicer is mainly composed of the following components:
Rotating Ring Cutterhead
A large disc or ring structure, with multiple blades (usually dozens) evenly installed along the edge, the blades are radially arranged, and the cutting Angle is adjustable.
Feed System
It includes a forced feeding roller (pressure roller) and a feeding channel to ensure that the wood is pushed towards the cutter head at a uniform speed and stably.
Bed Knife
Fixed opposite the cutter head, it forms a shearing effect with the rotating blade to enhance the cutting accuracy.
Drive device
The high-power motor drives the cutter head to rotate at high speed (usually at a speed of 300-1500 rpm).
Screening device (optional)
Some models are equipped with built-in screens to separate qualified wood chips from overly large fragment
Step 1: Raw material pretreatment
The wood needs to be first processed by a chipper or sawing into standard wood blocks (typically 50-150mm in length and 20-50mm in thickness) to ensure smooth entry into the feeding port of the chipper.
Step 2: Forced feeding
The feeding roller (usually with serrated teeth or hydraulically pressurized) presses the wood blocks tightly and pushes them at a constant speed to the cutting area to prevent slipping or rebound.
Step 3: Cutting with a circular cutter head
The high-speed rotating circular cutter head drives multiple blades to cut the wood in sequence. Each blade "planes" a thin layer of wood chips off the surface of the wood (similar to a pencil sharpener).
Shearing effect: The blade and the bottom knife work together to form a shearing force, which makes the wood chips peel off more smoothly and reduces fiber tearing.
Continuous discharge: The thin wood chips after cutting are discharged from the discharge port through the centrifugal force of the cutter head or the airflow.
Step 4: Wood chip grading (optional)
Some models use vibrating screens or air flow sorting to return overly thick or large fragments for re-cutting, ensuring uniform finished products.
- Cutting Angle: The installation Angle of the blade (usually 25°-35°) affects the thickness and surface finish of the wood chip
- Cutter head speed: The higher the speed, the thinner the wood chips, but it is necessary to balance energy consumption and tool wear
- Feeding speed: Coordinated with rotational speed to control the thickness of wood chips (the slower the feeding, the thinner the wood chips)
4. Principle of wood chip Forming
Thin sheet characteristics: The thickness of the wood chip is determined by the amount of the blade protruding (or the gap between the blade head and the bottom blade), usually ranging from 0.1 to 5mm.
Fiber protection: Shearing cutting reduces damage to wood fibers, retains longer fibers, and enhances the strength of artificial boards.
Shape control: By adjusting the shape of the blade and cutting parameters, strip, sheet or square shavings can be produced
